First official teaching experience
10th to 11th March - Maths and Science Camp
I finally started work (again) as a facilitator for a education centre (not convenient to name). The first job Im assigned to - being a facilitator in a maths and science camp meant for primary 3 children. To be honest, Im quite nervous at first as its the first time I have to teach something in front of a whole class.
Prepartory work started on Sunday. Went to office headquarters for a briefing about this camp. The activities that we have to do are science experiments, maths quizes and a school trail. One of the activities requires many empty bottles, which is to be used as containers for the science experiments. I was almost shocked to death when Im given one carton of mineral water and is expected to drink all the water inside the bottles to obtain empty bottles. =.= Luckily for me though, I was allowed to just throw away all the water to the sinks. I know its a waste, but its better than me becoming a water buffalo...
Monday & Tuesday:
Just before I get to see my students, the coordinator for the camp briefed us about how the students are like for the different classes. I was hoping that since its my first experience, I would get a slightly-easy-to-handle class. To my horror, I was told that my class is the naughtiest and is very hard to handle. I almost fainted on the spot but I stood my ground and resigned to my fate. >.<
Lesson started for just 5 minutes before I began my first round of shouting at the kids to get their attention. There are kids who refused to be grouped, kids who claims they are "allergic to girls", kids who splashed water at each other in the middle of the science experiment, kids shouting and screaming at each other across the classroom, and kids who are vvvv cheeky. The coordinator advised me to be firm and strict to the kids, relaxing when possible to show that Im quite nice to them if they behave themselves, but easier said than done. No more than 5 minutes after I settled the class down, the class exploded again with chattering, kids running around etc etc. Luckily the points system works very well for them, and they are enthusiastic in answering any question that I asked. Its also actually quite fun to interact with them. At the end of the trail, I feel that what I have done is worthwhile and is actually seems fun.
Presenting to you, the rascals!

Conclusion of Drew and & Napier
My work at Drew finally ended on last friday. I cant say its been a totally happy two and a half months, especially witnessing so many ugly stuff and seeing so many unpleasant people and their crazy attitudes. I realised how two-faced some people can be, how some could abuse their power and be totally evil. Some people can be really demanding, and to cope with them, I learn to be firm and stand my ground. Some can smile and be friendly, but in reality they can stab me in the back without me even knowing. Work-wise, the environment was really stressful at times, especially during the one time when my supervisor fall sick, making me and sk running the mail dept. It can be really really tiring too, as I remembered that during one of the last few days, me and sk have to walk to nearly twenty plus locations all around raffles place to send documents.
Despite having worked for almost the whole of christmas eve, I can still be denied of my overtime pay.
Although I have made work sound really terrible on the last paragraph, several things liven it up. For one thing, I at least have a friend beside me to share my troubles since we are working together. We can hurl abuses and vulgarities at those crazy F%^kers and Bit&hes after work to let it out. Sometimes, work can also be so slack that me and sk can play psp for 1 hour before any work comes. Me and sk could sometimes go out and dispatch just 2 documents, before going seven eleven to buy snacks and slack for the remaining time. Some people were also really nice to me, such as the tea-lady who always help me to find people during the first week of work. Another person worthy of mention is a person called glen, who always cheer me and sk up with his cheeky anthics whenever we feel down during work. Pool during lunch breaks and after work also provide entertainment and fun (only if you are winning, which happens only about 20% of the time). Working in a law firm also allows me to visit places such as the high court, assisting lawyers going to the court room.
Some things I would definitely miss:
- (free) Pool!
- having fun slacking and chatting in the office
- subsidised aloe vera drinks at 50 cents! Lol!
- All those nice people I meet. (glen, viktor, wilmah, just to name a few)
- super-nice food at golden shoe!
No no-s
- Squeezing onto the jam-packed train every morning.
- meeting those two-faced %^&*()
All in all, its been an eye-opener experience for me. For now, its slacking time playing psp and gym-ing until I can find another job.
